  • Help trying to fix this before superbowl!!

So im replacing the bushings on shifter linkage. When i bought it there were about 20 zip ties holding the lingage tight. I cant figureout how to get the shaft out of the linkage to put new bushings in, its not a nut and bolt.

The part im talking about is at the end of the linkage going to tranny, it goes into a bracket, that bracket attaches to the tranny. There is a nylon washer in there also?

Does this get nylon washers to make it tight there?

thanks, need to get this done before the game

There are 6 bushings total in the linkage. 2 at the shifter, 4 at the transmission end. A bolt holds the linkage to the bottom of the shifter and a bolt holds it to the yoke at teh transmission. The yoke does not slip out of the trans. I had to replace mine last year. Ford has them but they are about $50 for all 6. Most people use bushings from your local parts store. Run a search for shifter and you'll get all kinds of info.

okay well there are 2 bolts 2 nuts (shifter end and tranny end) and then this shaft(between tranny and shifter) which looks like a llarge rivit or pressed in bolt with no threads, i must be rushing cause i cant figure out how it comes out.

btw the 2 bushings were $28 from ford, next time ill order some online

Not removable unless you grind it off.

If you get one from a junkyard, wouldn't you have to cut it off too? If that is what you are talking about, I don't think it would be of much help.

i was thinking just get a nut and bolt like what is at the tranny side and using that instead of a unremovable shaft

And now my shifter is very tight and mushy...it takes alot of effort to change gears and get into neutral. Could overtightening the bolts cause it to do this?
