  • Replace gauges with one with a tachometer. Need new speedometer cable.

So I got a gauge cluster with a tach on it. However the speedometer is located on the right rather than the center like the OEM one,

I reconnected the cable and put the dash back together. Well it was a tight squeeze because the the cable was pressing on the metal behind it and it bent the cable slightly.

Well yes you guessed it, the cable broke on the first test drive.:angry5:

    So I was wondering:

    1. Does anybody have a spare speedometer cable for an 89 Festy?

    2. Is there a way to re-route the cable so it works without bending?

Also, it seems that the tach only goes up to 4000RPM or so before I have to shift. But the red line is around 6000.

    Please help guys.

    -Chris

(P.S. I cant seem to figure out out how to delete my double post- Sorry)

you have to pull the cable out through the firewall, then when you shove it back in, you have to rich back behind the metal bracket that's there, and pull it around int to the right, then it shouldn't bend anymore =)

You can get brand new speedo cables from a local auto parts store... IIRC their < $20

and as josh said, you have to re-route the cable to the right of the mettal bracket that your current one was bent around.

no need to pull it through the fire wall...just push it back and around the metal brace.
