  • Speedometer stuck at 15mph

about a month or two ago I swapped in a tach cluster and a new speedo cable. It had been working fine until last night when I was driving on the e-way home I had the radio down enough to hear it clicking a little bit. I figured fine, no big deal I will just lube it some more tomorrow when I get home from work.
Well today on the way to work it just stopped at 15mph and won't budge. The odometer is still going but the speedo is frozen at 15 and I can hear like faint "churning/wooshing noise"

What could cause that. Is it a bad cluster?

i haven't had a cluster apart.. but sounds like the internal gear on the speedometer needle is stripped.....

if the odometer is still going- then the speedo cable/spring itself is ok- would be internal to the cluster that the speedometer needle isn't working.

Great, that's what I am afraid of... I wonder if the gearing from my other non tach cluster would work

Taking it apart to look at it isn't very hard, you just need to keep track of the where all of the small parts go.

For some reason I have had bad luck with tach clusters. This is my second one that has messed up on me.

Correct, its a white face speedo brand new. It has the speedo/tach face and the speedo in it. I'd take $50 for it.

how hard would it be to fix my Tach cluster with this? Never had one apart.

Its not too bad, the only tricky part is carefully taking out the needles for the other gauges.

I would like to buy another whole white faced tach cluster, but I am eerie since my last two clusters were crap.
On the orange one the circuit board burnt up from where a ground circuit on the board must have been frayed
And now this white faced one is wore out with only ~75,000 miles on it.
Maybe 3rd time is the charm?

Ty....it is not a big deal to take off the needles....sounds like all you need is the speedo and you would be good to go. I would do the swap if thats all I had available to me

Is it possible that your speedo cable is routed wrong and binding??
