my cv joint got riped a while back, so i packed it full of grease and wraped it up with a peice of rubber and clamped it up but i dont know if the cv joint went bad. how do you tell when they go bad? my car seems to make a loud thumping noise whenever i acceleratate to fast or lose traction,i think that whould be it, but everyone says that its should be a grinding noise. so has any one had a cv joint that was bad and if so what did it do.

Find an empty parking lot, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. Put it in first gear and accelerate and decelerate a few times. If the CV joint is bad, you'll hear rapid tick, tick, tick.

Turn the wheel all the way to the right and repeat.

No ticks, and you should be fine.

Have you replaced the boot yet? If not you'll want to do that.
