  • Funky Fuel Gauge

When I fill up my 90 Festiva, the gauge reads full. Over the next 70 miles it makes it's way to empty, though the tank is probably around 3/4 full. Anyone ever seen this?

    Sending units coil has gone.
Any sending unit from an EFI festiva, assuming it is an EFI, can be used to replace it, maybe others but not sure of that.
Some have tried to rewire it, but don't know if anyone had had success with that route.
Place a [WTB] in the [FS] section after reading the posting rules in that section.

Yes this has personally happened to me and irritated me to ____. So I pulled out my fuel sending unit out of the tank and tore it apart. What I found is the arm/floater goes into a little silver box. I opened it and found a coil of fine thin wire. The middle section however had broken coils. So when the fuel sending unit hits that spot the computer is reading that the tank is empty. Pretty much what PU241 already stated.

I have tried sodering in a wire to see if I could get it to work. The best I got is the gauge always read full. I dont know which is worse empty or full lol. So to close you are better off looking for a new sending unit.
