If you have a new regulator assembly it should just unbolt and reinstall with a good one.
I repaired mine using a Escorts winder taking apart both and putting it back together,
My window goes up and down using the winder but the brake mechanism does not hold the window up. I have to hold it up using a bungie from the armrest.
Very difficult to hold the wound spring, the cable pulley and get it back together, even when you hold your mouth right.
Use the correct replacement, it will be much easier.
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

I replaced mine just yeasterday, and its not hard at all. it shouldn't take you no more than 30 min. max. Make sure you remove the 2 bolts (10mm) holding the window and pull out the window first. Then it's a matter of removing 5 nuts and 1 bolt (10mm), then install in reverse.

Check the splines on the handle maybe you will be lucky and just have to replace the handle...
