  • Festiva_Tunner this threads for you

Trevor is sitting along side the road awaiting a water pump pulley.
    He is in good hands.
Two members have what he needs and will/can be there in short order.

Trevor we want details and pics.

Packrat427 had a similar failure some years ago.
Except his pulley broke loose at the center.

Anyone know if other pulleys from other Mazda engines are a direct substitute for the various pulleys used on the festiva?
We might want to check our pulleys for fractures and think about keeping a spare.

I apreciate it guys tom had one on stand by if the one off the bpt didn't work
It was really strange it didn't make any noise at all I had just finished filling up and got back out on the highway and a few miles down the road the motor stumbles but comes right back up to speed - shortly after the bat light comes on which was confirmed by my volt guage then the temp started climbing. I figured no big deal the belt probly broke - I keep a spare in the back anyway. When I pull off I find half the pulley is tore up and the belt even though in one piece is ate up. Some trimming of the tore up timming cover and a new pulley and the tin_can is back running. We load the bpt in the back and I'm back on the road.

For some reason I can't upload the photo from my phone so I'll have to put it up tomorrow

Yeah this failure is different from Dougs - his the whole center of the pulley failed

Weird... looks like Mazda had some casting issues with their water pump pulleys.

I wonder if any other Mazda owners had this happen.

Could be the b6 b8 bpt all have the same water pump pulleys from what I'm finding

                  bad metal

The weld didn't fail. It looks like metal fatigue. Time to turn some billet on a lathe. Too bad evrything couldn't be machined from solid metal, just like the space shuttle.
