  • Temp gauge not working

    Hi everyone,
The temperature gauge on the DeathEgg ('88 L+), is not working right/not working at all.
Most times it stays still, and never moves ---sometimes, it will move all the way up to the top of the gauge (HOT).. Nothing is wrong with the engine, it has coolant, never actually overheats, etc, it's running fine.

I can jiggle the little wire coming from the temp gauge sensor, and it will make the reading change, so I know the problem is the sensor or the wire coming from it. Is this sensor still available new, or would I have to get a used one? Or can I epoxy that wire in the right place? It's just annoying to have no temp reading -- I like to know what's happening!
    Thanks!!
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

These can be purchased at your local parts store. There are 2 different sizes, so make sure you get the right one. They are only like $10 around here.
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

      Might be sensor and connection.
If senor was good and engine wasn't over heating then it should not "move all the way up to the top of the gage (HOT).."
So either get a new one or swap for a known good one and see if the problem still occurs.
The connection will corrode, so I've taken to cleaning up the sensor were it connect to the wire and cutting the connector off the wire and directly soldering the wire to the sensor.
My gage now works and is way more responsive and sensitive than before.
