  • Ocassional dip in idle - carb'ed '88

I have just gotten the Festy back out on the road two days ago and now every once in a while (and only when fully warmed up) the idle will all of a sudden drop and then pick back up to normal. It may cycle a few times that way, about every 5 seconds.

It actually stalled out today in the drive-through, so I'm starting to get concerned about it.

It seems to be some sort of vacuum-controlled solenoid causing it. What does the carbed engine idle control system consist of?

    Mazda just loves their solenoids...drool

    Thanks!

more than likely it's your load control solenoid, but after that i would look into your fuel pump flow and pressure.

check the gas tank and pull the sending unit out u might see some build up if u never serviced the tank i just happen to do mine 2 days ago and it was prety nasty i used my shop vac after draining the gas and there was a bunk of sludge in the tank i was alittle concerned but i put 93 octane and fixed the sending unit the new one i got from kia motors in korea works excellent but the price is kind hard

Please, do yourself a favor, before you spend any money or time on anything else and no matter when you last did it, replace your plugs with NKG V-Power ones. If that doesn't fix the problem, take them out and save them for your next tuneup. Nothing lost but a little time, but could save you hours, if not days, of time and lots of money.
