Checking for ground continuity

Need advice on how to search for a bad ground on a tail light curcuit for a 81 regal.. Any advice, tips?

use a multimeter and set on ohms with the key off

ground the black to a good unpainted metal spot

and trace the outer edge of the bulb sockets til you have more than 5+ ohms
