Tie down bracket is my name for the 4 brackets under the car used to tie down the vehicle when it is on the ship from Korea. I use them to tie down the canoe on top of the car.

Box beam is my name for the box beam which runs the length of the underside of the passenger compartment on each side to reinforce the body in the absence of a frame. That's where I put the jack stands, beind the front wheels.

I took the quote from the manual to mean the engine mount at the side and traced that reinforced beam down to tie down bracket and put the jack there. I see now what the manual was referring to in the centre.

Now I understand and think we are in agreement. Today I looked under my engine compartment and noticed there are a couple of bolt ends sticking out from where the front engine mount is located. No place for a jack. It looks as if the place mentioned in the manual is forward of that toward the front of the car at the end of that metal plate that runs from front to rear in the middle of the engine compartment.

I just bought one of those small jacks and had to use my manual to find out where to put it.

I also bought jack stands, but was not happy having the pinch seam along the side sills supporting the whole weight of the car. I plan to get some pads for the stands and maybe cut some slots in them so the weight is not on the seam.
