Let me set the senerio for you - on the way to work and I jump on the highway. I begin shifting up to speed and I reach 60 in fouth. I shift to fifth and a shaking vibration develops and I imediately start dropping speed even with the accelerator pressed to the floor. I drove to work in fourth gear - but had to downshift to third to go up a 2% grade without dropping speed.
Mind you at lower speeds (40 & Below) fifth gear works just fine.
I plan on adjusting the clutch before I leave work today.
Known Facts:
The pilot bearing is going (telltale rattle)
The front motor mount is shot (planed on replacing when I did the B8 Swap)
I have a clutch to go in (but its for the b8 swap)
I have the b8 and accesories in the Garage (minor prep work left)
If I'm pulling the trans to do the clutch I'm changing the axles at the same time (I have the axles - was going to change them for the b8
I don't have time to change the clutch or swap the motor
I wanted to change to the Aspire MTX when I did the motor swap
I also wanted to swap the rear beam and hubs to the aspire's to handle the bigger motor
The aspire parts are still bolted to the aspire (aside from the rims and tires)
So my thought is that the clutch is slipping at the higher speeds so bad that it's catching and grabbing - creating a vibration due to the bad front mount.
Has anyone experienced this? What are your thoughts?
