Help identifying a part.

I just started to hear a bit of a knocking sound coming from my B6 so decided to drop the pan to see if there were any rods that were loose.

I found this part in the oil pan...



... and for you smart alecks out there I know the round shiny one on the left is a quarter

Looks to me like it is a roll pin of some sort.

That's weird. I just disassembled a B6 a couple of weeks ago and don't remember seeing anything like that. I'll have to go look over the parts again....now I'm curious too.

I just figured it out.... I think. It's one of the sleeves that go with the valve cover bolt seals!!

I'm pulling the valve cover too so I'll check to see if my suspicion is correct.

It does look like a roll pin of some sort. I'll check on a rocker assembly. Could be from there maybe.

I think that may be one of the positive stops that goes in the valve cover gasket grommets.

Mmm. Could be, but I don't think that's right. I just did mine, and I don't think they looked like that. Could be wrong tho. Guess there might be more than one style??

TA DA! Ask and ye shall receive. It's a postive stop collar for the valve cover bolt grommet.
