Just changed my gas filter. (90 efi) Haynes manual said to release the pressure in the fuel line, dissconnect the electrical plug to the inerta switch and start the car until it shuts off. when I tried to start the car it wouldn't start. So I plug it back in, started the car then pull the plug until it shut down. Thinking the pressure was released, i removed the fuel lines from the filter and gas came out. Quickly I put in the new filter on.

Why was the fuel line still pressurized? What did I do wrong? What size are the hose clamps on the fuel line? I need to call my son to pick some up new ones, and I don't know what size to tell him to get. One of my clamps was really rusted and wouldn't tighten down.

If gas just comes out that's normal. If it blasts out at high pressure then the lines didn't depressurize. Another way to relieve pressure is to take out the fuel pump fuse, and start the car and run it till it shuts off. I'm not sure about the hose clamps, just take the rusty one that wouldnt tighten with you and compare sizes
