  • General temperature into, electric fan kick-on point etc?

So my car got its first real dose of warm weather the other day and i got stuck in traffic and the temp gauge got up past half way and i started getting concerned so i pulled off into Burger King. I opened the hood and to my shock the fan wasn't even running yet. Is this normal or is my fan burned out and/or is there a fan controller like some cars have that could be bad?

Second...i know these cars don't need much radiator to keep them cool...is it really a concern to look for a larger one if i keep the engine stock? What about swapping the fan with a stronger one?

You should be fine with your stock radiator. The automatic radiators are dual core and would be an upgrade, but definitely not required on a stock B3.
My car is the same way... fan doesn't come on till about 1/2 way to 5/8th of the way...
I'd just verify that the fan does work (disconnect connector and apply 12v directly)
and then the fan switch is working (disconnect the single plug and the fan should come on automatically when key is in the "on" position)
    good luck.

Heck i figured a Civic radiator would probably be an upgrade. I also have a pretty decent size Volvo core with two fans that i had planned on using in the Merkur but i'm not sure if i could mount it right. I may take one of the fans off if mine is burned out.

Oh, i never got around to cutting the springs. I'm such a procrastinator.
