  • Squealing sound- When turning :?

What causes a squealing sound when I turn left. It's coming from the front drivers side. Sounds kind of like metal rubbing against metal. Very irritating.

    Any ideas?

Wheel bearing is my guess. Jack up that side and shake the wheel. If there is play, the bearing's toast.

Could also be misaligned brake hardware too, the only way to really tell is jack it up and take a look.

The brake pads will have a small metal finger that will come into contact with the rotor when the pads wear down enough. You should hear that only when you break and when the pads are getting thin, but the noise could be described as squealing and it is definitely metal on metal.

Check the pads and replace if worn down. While at it check to see that the calipers will move easily on their bushings with pressure from your hands only. If not lubricate them.

jack up the car, remove the tire, turn the wheels all the way to the left, visual inspection

I really don't think it is the brakes. Mainly since it doesn't do it when I brake and I know the sound of worn brake pads.

But I will just jack it up and take a peak.. Just looking for a few things that I should pay attention too.

Could it possibly be the turn limit stop missing/misaligned? The tire could be rubbing in the well.

Well it is even on mediocre turns. It's definitely a sharper sound like metal scraping against metal. Like Nails on a chalk board

I only have about 94,000 on my car. But when I was replacing the rear brakes I did notice the bearings weren't in the best shape so I'm thinking it could possibly the front bearings and they could be bad. I should get a chance tomorrow to take a look.
