  • Running rough (New Festiva)

Basicly car is running rough at startup (auto, 92, efi). Everything else is fine, the trans has quick pick up (feels quicker then 89 carb).

Basicly the car dies out after 10-15 secs if no gas is applied. I played around with switching wires, plugs, cap, rotor and still similar results. As soon as the car goes, its perfect. At stop lights the car feels like its gonna die if no gas is applied. In all gears (p,r,n 1, 2) it happens.

I am thinking timing because similar things happened with the other festiva and timing fixed the problem.

Any suggestions? O and would the timing affect gas mileage ( I think I am gettting 25 mpg.)

Check all your vacuum lines. You can do this by spraying them one by one with starting fluid. If the idle changes, you found your leak. Also, yes, timing can affect gas mileage.
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

on the right side of the throttle body you'll see a round rubber plug, remove it, then you'll see the idle adjustment screw..

I doubt the idle is your main problem, FI engines don't usually need idle adjustment regularly. I would check your sensors and vac. lines

                DO not prejudice your diagnoses!

                Why do you suspect timing?

Were the distributor hold down bolts loose.

Timing would effect performance across the board, not just at idle.
25 MPG could be about right depending upon geography and style of driving for an ATX.

Sounds like lack of fuel delivery.

                Need more details!
When did this start, what have you done to it, what have you already checked.

Both. Most likely you will need to adjust your idle when you do the timing. Time it right, and if that doesn't fix it, move to the next thing. You already replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor too, right?
