  • popping noise

ok so this has been going on for a little while but now its getting me nervous, so time to do something

when i accelerate from a stop i can hear a single popping noise from the passenger side tire area. i hear it when i press the clutch and again when i release in 2nd, again when i press in clutch, and again when i release in 3rd etc. i dont think its the cv shafts they are brand new (dec. '09) also it doesnt seem to happen when turning like a bad cv shaft would do

i can also hear some kind of rub noise when i hit bumps from the same area.

my sway bushings are shot and i know it, my ball joint seals are in pretty sore shape too. are all these noises my ball joints? i dont know but its just a guess.

could it be the pass front shock/spring/something?

could be any of it....I would start with the sway bar bushings...if worn they will let the strut move back and forth while accelerating and letting off.

what about your ball joint pinch bolts, if they are undersized or non torqued properly they will make the same noise!

im really not sure what ball joint pinch bolts are but i dont think i've messed with them.. unless its the bolt that runs through and squishes the ball joint "pin" to the rest of the wheel, i had to replace my cv's last year.

that's the one. did you replace them with new ones? if so they could be slightly under sized. my first two aspires did that when I put new ones in.

regardless of the pinch bolts, im just going to replace both LCAs and bushings, since the bushings on my pass. side have broken in half, they will soon fall off.

replace what with new ones? the bolts? no i didnt

new LCA's sometimes come with bolts, depending where you get them. Sounds like a good idea to me.

god bless fastenal!!!! they should carry the bolt you're needing, all it is is a standard M10 with a 25mm shank... just make sure it's grade 10.2 or higher.

i've decided not to get new LCA's but i need new ball joint cups. advance say they have them but i need to know what size to get, sounds like they are universal cups to me. so what size do i need to get?
