Festiva AC 1990

Hi all, My 1990 Festiva has what I'm guessing is Factory AC, has dedicated button in dash. Blows only warm air, I don't think compressor is kicking on, son confirms this. If I have Firestone look at it what will happen? Will they have to retrofit to new r134? How much will this run? I am kind of stuck since I have a Firestone card and really need AC in the valley in Northern CA. Son says may just need clutch. Can AC be repaired without converting? Any experiences with Firestone AC service? Thank you guys!

well u need a new compressor but look on the site i have listed cause its a kia part
also check and see if theres freon in the tank to it might be low try a r134a retro kit as i know these car are equipped with r12

go to searching for festiva parts its in the repair area when u get to the site type in kia pride ac compressor there the same

this one is autozones pricy i can try and get a new one from the site i go to

The compressor wont kick on if its low on freon.

A retrofit will run about $200, and that includes the new fittings and a refill of R-134. The chances of finding R-12 are slim to none. But a conversion to R-134 isn't going to fix your problem if the compressor is toast. You can buy a Retrofit kit at a Parts store for about $50 if you want to do it yourself.

They will not service your car unless it is retrofitted to 134. They will purge the 12, install new valves, then charge with 134 and put in dye and tell you to come back if it gets warm and check for leaks. You can keep the same hoses and compressor when you switch to 134.

You could either have a problem with power to the clutch, or low charge causing the ac to not come on. I think the mode selector needs to be set on dash vents for the ac to come on, right?
