  • How to adjust the clutch?

I was wondering if someone could tell me how you go about adjusting the clutch on a 90L? I would get the repair book to do it but i don't have the cash right now.

there's a metal clutch cable with a nut on it but i have to warn u if u adjust it most likely is gonna snap the bolt right off if it's never been touched.

theres a rod on the clutch cable where it connects to the transmission you just adjust the bolt until right
      1. To check the clutch pedal height, measure the distance from the center of the clutch pedal surface to the carpet or pad on the firewall. The height should be within the limits listed in the chapters specifications. If it isn't it must be adjusted. (8.2 to 8.4 in)

      2. To adjust clutch pedal height, disconnect the clutch switch electrical connector.
      3. Loosen the switch locknut.
      4. Turn the clutch switch in or out until the pedal height is corrected.
      5. Tighten the locknut and recheck the pedal height to verify it is correct. Note: whenever the pedal height is adjusted it will most likely be necessary to adjust the freeplay because increasing or decreasing pedal height will cause a similar change in pedal freeplay.
      6. Check the clutch pedal freeplay by lightly pushing the clutch pedal down and measuring the distance it moves freely before clutch resistance is felt. The freeplay should be within the limits listed in this chapter, If it isn't it must be adjusted. (.35 to .59 in)
      7. Adjustment of the clutch pedal freeplay is achieved by loosening or tightening the clutch cable adjustment nut.
      8. Working in the engine compartment, pull the clutch release lever back and measure the clearance between the release lever and the cable pivot. (the cable pivot is between the nut and the lever) A clearance of .060 to .100 in between the release lever and cable pivot shuld give the correct pedal freeplay.
      9. Recheck the pedal freeplay to verify it is correct. If the pdeal freeplay is still incorrect refer to chapter 8 (not gonna do that one lol. buy a book) and inspect the clutch release components for damage.

Thanks i really appreciate it. If i had the $25 dollars i would buy the book, but right now i am having troubles affording gas, and in a Festiva that's saying something!

well lets just hope the pedal freeplay is correct at step 9 then

well i know its still pushing range, but rockauto can ship you one to 26505(i assume that is correct) for $18.32 just for future reference and all

Thanks. I got it all adjusted, and that didn't fix my problem. Changed the fluid and that didn't fix it either. All the measurements seem fine (free play, height) so i guess it is just getting worn out. I think it must be the sycros that are going bad. Oh well, i will just continue to get by by double clutching it, you get used to it after a while.
