  • Front wheel bearing

I've read somewhere that when bearing goes out on the festiva that it doesn't give you much warning. Found that out today, three blocks from the garage it started to groan, barely made it back home. Hope I didn't hurt the spindle?

Is there anything I should know about replacing them??

Yes there is; also change the races, which usually come with the new bearings, as well as seals, pack the bearings properly with grease before install, don't overtighten the spindle nut (only use your wrist, and not your arm), and be aware that on some models the drivers side spindle nut loosens CLOCKWISE.
The left lane? Are you crazy!!! I never drive in the left lane...It's full of freaks driving the wrong way and charging right at you!!!

Seriously doubt that you hurt the spindle if your front bearings have gone out.
        Spindles are on the rear.
        Hubs are on the front.
Yes, the fronts don't last too long after they start to make noise.
Hub bearings have to be pressed out and on.
Note: make sure that the spacer in the hub is properly installed.
Ask the machine shop, if you choose to take it to one, about the spacer.
If they look at you funny, run very far away!
If the spacer is not installed or properly installed, your bearings will fail again in very few miles.
If you have a press or access to one you can do the bearings yourself.

Yeah, these are the front brakes only, I got them finished and it has never ran so quiet,

Got all four wheels painted also.

Thanks for the info guys, this thread is a big help.

Um, so it was your brakes, and not your bearings?? Or did you already get the bearing done?

And, for the record, I will second John's advice. Ask the shop about the spacers BEFORE they touch the car. I usually ask them if they know what they are. If they know that much, then I ask them how many there are. If they know the magic number, they get to do my bearings. I failed to ask that of one shop, and I got to replace the bearings they replaced in about 12K miles.

Who did you get to do them? I have a set of knuckles waiting for a new set of bearings.
