So the choke doesn't work on my carb...not a huge problem yet since it isn't cold out but it does run like total crap until it warms up. Well i got to tinkering with it and found that the butterfly is mostly closed and has always been this way. It runs fine despite this. So i got curious and got it up to temp and then opened it by hand and took it for a drive and now it sputters and runs funny and there's no noticeable power increase, which i would have expected since it was running with the secondary bore basically closed. Any thoughts?

Well...i don't think this is a dirty carb issue...otherwise why would it run fine with the choke plate closed and not so great with it open? The choke itself physically doesn't work...i have no idea why. The PO said the linkage wasn't hooked up but i'm guessing there was a reason for that.
