  • Interchangability of tie rods - '90+ parts on 89?

I have an 89 festiva LX (auto trans, fuel injection). I am looking at getting a kit that has control arms/ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, and sway bar bushings.
Will a kit for a 1990-1993 work on this 1989 car? I have heard that there are two different styles for the inner tie rods, maybe with different thread pitches used. Is this true?
I have done this same job on my '91 L without issue, just need to know if I can order the same parts for this '89 LX.

Yes, the threads are different on the early racks for the inner tie rod ends, so it will need different ones. Also, note instead of lock pins, a tab washer is used on early racks to hold them in place. This should help tell you which style you have for certain.
