  • Trying to get AC working again

The AC has not been used at least since I bought the car(3 yrs in Sept) and has not had a belt on the compressor either. I put a belt on it yesterday and put some refrigerant in the low pressure side and did not get cold air. The compressor pulley sounded awful, pretty sure that bearing is toast. When I turned it off and pulled off the belt, the belt was so hot it burnt my hand. I did not hear the clutch engage or see the condenser fan come on, although if I understand the circuit diagram, the condenser fan will not kick if the clutch does not engage. On the plus side, the system did appear to hold pressure. The gauge that came with the refrigerant said it was full after about 4oz. So what should I do next here? Is it possible/cost effective to rebuild a compressor, should I buy a new one, is it likely there are problems other than a bad compressor? Any help would be appreciated, first time trying to fix AC.

Why would we call you Steve

As for the AC question it sounds like the compressor and/or clutch has seized up or is close to doing so.
