  • Pilot bearing question

Im forced to replace the 5 speed transaxle from my 93 to an 89 4 speed - last week I put a clutch in hoping all problems would go away(lost gears and grinding and now metal chunks in the trans fluid) . When I put the clutch in last week I didnt change the pilot bearing caus it looked ok and spun nicely . Besides I went to every part store in town looking for a removal tool , but not one would fit inside the small bearing ... so my question is - if I remove the flywheel can it be pounded out from the back side , maybe with a socket slightly smaller than the bearing ?
    thanks for any advise

Yeah, just use a smaller socket to remove it. To drive the new one in, use a slightly larger socket with the flat side (where the ratchet goes) towards the bearing. The flywheel will stop the socket when the bearing is all the way in.
