  • AC causing overheating?

Like the title says I am having some problems with my car in the summer with the AC on. The problem only occurs when I am at several stop lights, coasting around town or pulling through a drive thru. If I am on the highway it is totally fine and if I turn the AC off and run around town with the windows down (I usually do) it barely comes off of the C line. The car has not fully overheated yet because I have noticed it before it gets too hot but last time I caught it, it was barely within the H white line. I am just curious if this is normal with the AC units or if I need to think about the repairs. It is fine for now but it is still early in the AC season lol!

Is the fan coming on like it should? Id check that first Thats gotta be the only explanation. Because the AC running shouldnt cause you to overheat.

Like Monsoon says, check the fan first.
If it is coming on as it should check your radiator, see if it is fairly close in temp everywhere on the core.
If you find "cooler" spots you have a partially clogged radiator.

May just need a new fan switch mounted in the t-stat housing. The A/C condenser is just adding a little extra heat load when it running. I am with the others, you get the fan operating correctly and Problem Solved.
