  • Taching Bouncing at 2000-3500rpm's all the time?

I have a 1989 Festiva. I took EVERYTHING, out of a 1993 Festiva and switched it into the 1989 festiva. As far as I can tell everything is hooked up and operational. When the car is running the tach bounces between 2000-3500 rpm's no matter what rpm the engine is running, even if it's at idle. Any Idea's? Thanks,

    Shaun

Are the cables plugged in all the way?

I had a similar problem because I didn't push the connector into the cluster securely.

After changing to the tach cluster my temp gage didn't work and that's all it ended up being was a loose connection on one of the wire harnesses. In your case I would check the connection of the tach wire at the distributor and also the ground for the gage cluster

Yeah the cables are secure in the back of the cluster, I have tried 2 different clusters. Every other gauge works fine as it should, just the tach is messing up.
