  • So-----my Festiva fixed itself?????

When everyone was here in March, the guys checked out all my vehicles before they left and one of the things they did was swap my instrument cluster for a tach cluster. It had been in the garage, but Dean hadn't gotten around to installing it.

Well, the odometer worked and everything else except the trip meter. I had meant to ask the guys about it when I was at 4thtiva, but I forgot. Actually, I've been to Will's three times but can't seem to remember to ask him about it when I see him. Getting senile!

Anyhow----Sunday, on the way home from the meet, I noticed that the trip decided to start working. And it still is.

I've put a couple thousand miles on Kermit and I can't see why all of a sudden the trip would decide to start working.

    Ghost mechanic maybe?
So what----I had a loose wire and it decided to reconnect itself??????????

the trip odometer is purely gear driven from the speedometer cable, its connected to the actual odometer.. that is very weird.

Ive got a problem with mine not wanting to reset. I have to sometimes mash the reset button forever to get it to reset. Sometimes I have to wait for certain numbers to come around before it will reset. Really annoying.

it may have just been in between where it actually needed to be , I know if I do not push my reset in ALL the way...it will reset but will not tick off the miles until I happen to notice it is not moving and then reset it properly.

What I had to do on my old tach cluster was... Push it in and let it pop out violently and than I could reset it after that.

Has caught the most Festivas on Fire on this board!!

I hate when stuff does that. My mom's check engine light goes on and off constantly, when I go to check it it freaking disappears. So annoying.

my 90 lx won't always reset either unless the tenth digit is on 0, but then again it has 372,000 miles so I figured it is worn out.

X2. I can never decide if problems fixing themselves are good things, or bad things. It's nice to have the problem gone, but you kind of know it'll be back.

Mom, hopefully yours is fixed, and will stay that way.

the trip odometers seem to have issues with the bronze bushings getting dry. This causes them to stop and/or not reset. Application of a drop of mineral oil on each bushing seems to fix it. At least, on the five clusters I've fixed.
