  • Wut Brand o' Spark Plug?

I've heard and found that a certain brand of spark plug does better than others in some certain vehicles.

Any opinions out there on what brand I should throw into my Steve (93 manual L)?

I've always had good luck with Bosch platinums in mine.
I'm currently using platinum +2's now.

as we techs like to say:

if it DID NOT COME WITH PLATINUM SPARK PLUGS FROM THE FACTORY, DO NOT USE THEM

It is a waste of time and money
and in some vehicles, can cause some ill and strange side effects

I take it these cars must have come from the factory with NGKs.

I believe they came with Motorcraft spark plugs

Most of us have had great luck with NGK V-Powers

You are going to love this one.

So I pull out the plugs, all but #3 because it is stuck really bad. They are Bosch with the 4 whatchamacallits, right? Finally, I get #3 loose after some tender back and forth and regular shots of PB Blaster. I get it out and LOL, it's a MOTORCRAFT AGS32C!! HA HA HA HA! I guess the last several mechanics didn't dare try to get #3 out because it was kinda stuck! So this Motorcraft guy is burned out to guess what air gap?? The electrode is burned down nice and round, almost flush with the insulator! The gap is (drum roll) .075! HA HA HA! But the funniest part perhaps is that the insulator is nice and clean, a nice light brown! Go Figure! But the upper part had ancient Egyptian rust and oil crust that make me think this here #3 plug came from the factory! HA HA

I had the same issue with mine when I got it. 3 of the plugs were Splitfires (remember those?) and one was a factory original Motorcraft plug. I couldn't get the Motorcraft out and didn't want to break it off, so I just left it in and drove it. Finally pulled the head off at 120K miles and had a machine shop extract it. It was well worn, but looked good for the miles.

I have ran Motorcraft, Autolite, Splitfire, NGK and Bosch Plat +2's. Although I avoid Bosch plugs (like Champions) in every other application, I must admit that they seem to provide the best performance in my Festy and also in the B8 Protege I used to have. I even ran the NGK's for about 4000 miles and switched them out for the Bosch +2's. I noticed an increase in responsiveness and fuel mileage when I did. Replaced them with the NGK's again and noticed a decrease. I have heard that the Bosch plugs give misfire problems in COP and most newer Ford ignitions, but I have no evidence to back it up. I stick with genuine Motorcraft in everything else.
