Hi. I found this site while trying to dig up some info on my dad's '97 Aspire, with 1.3L. Anyway a few months back, he was having a problem with an intermittent miss that was only noticeable when the car was stopped and in gear, it's an automatic. I went through and replaced plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. The cap had a couple of the inner contacts worn away by what appeared to be the rotor hitting the contacts, there were little grooves in the contact. Anyway, the problem is back and once again it appears as though the rotor has chewed up some of the contacts on the inside of the cap. Could it be that the distributor itself is moving/flexing? The misfire is very intermittent, it'll miss then wait 5 seconds and miss again, wait 20 seconds and miss again. Any one ever heard of something like this before? Any suggestions???
BTW, when I replaced everything the first time, I used parts bought through the local Ford dealer.
