  • Throwout Bearing?

Car in question is: 1991 festiva BP swapped with stock trans and "new" clutch disk, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing installed at time of swap. Have drove about 5000 miles since swap!

For the past couple days I have noticed a "whine, grind, scrapeing" type growl
when I am at a red light with clutch pressed in.
Well, tonight I was at light and was in 1st gear with clutch in and heard the noise. I put car neutral and let out clutch and noise was gone.
pressed in clutch and noise was still gone.
As soon as I put car in gear noise came back.
Back to neutral and left clutch in, noise was still there.
as soon as I let out clutch, noise gone.

So, Is that the throwout bearing?
If not, any ideas as to what it is?

I guess now is time to take engine out and get it ready for FM4.:violent1:

Check your transaxle fluid level, which should have Mercon ATX Fluid even in the Manual Transaxles. Sometimes the clutch frork assembly will rattle if the clutch cable is too loose.
You says all the clutch parts are new, so I doubt it is any of them, even though, someone here had a Throwout Bearing fall apart.

it would be the one on the shaft that goes into the middle of the clutch, but if that ones shot, so are the other five

i had the same problem. only mine was more than a tittle chatter/growl. mine was the whole trans case cracked all the way around. lesson learned, if you have a leaky axle seal and don have time to fix it, keep the fluid level full.
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!
