  • Ignition Switch Tests

Ok, so I tried searching and came up empty handed. As I posted in another thread, I think my ICM problem has got something to do with my ignition switch itself. I am only getting 11.78 volts at the + coil wire, but 12.4 volts at the battery. This may or may not be acceptable. I don't know. Does anyone know a way to test the ign. switch, or maybe give me a diagram of how it works, and what wires should carry what kind of juice through them? I would love to take this little car down to FM4, but I need to get it running and dependable for a few hour drive each way. Please and Thanks!

Are you sure the problem isn't an internal one in the distributor? I had one that would pop modules at no particular interval. Turns out that Jim (FB71) finally clued me in that I had an internal grounding problem inside the distributor. It has been the only distributor to ever give me this trouble of all my cars.

Thanks for the response, but I have replaced the entire disty several times and always get the same issue.

Are your engine grounds, and the chassis ground just off the battery terminal clean, tight, etc?
( I know, I sound like a broken record, but jim was adament that a bad ground builds up heat and pops modules)
