    What is the Sound of a Failing Timing Belt Tensioner Bearing?

    The title pretty well says it all. I have a high pitched whine or whistle emanating from the upper timing belt cover of my "new" 1994 Aspire.
    I've reset the tension to no appreciable effect. At 78,000 miles what is the likelihood the tensioner bearing could be bad?

    likelyhood is low, but easy way to check is to remove upper cover, find a long thin rod and touch one end to the tentioner bolt and the other to your thumb. now put ear to thumb and see if the noise you hear matches the noise through the rod.

      Have you tried a few drops of oil?
