  • Blown Engine?

I bought a 91 GL and it came with a blown engine as I was informed when I bought it. I am planning on rebuilding the engine, or atleast attempting to since I think it will be a good experience for me to actually get inside an engine and try to figure everything out. I figure since its already broke I can't make it worse.
We have pulled the engine and tranny out of the car, which was a feeling of accomplishment in itself. Anyway when the engine was in the car it along with the whole engine bay was covered in oil. Im not an automotive genius, so I am just wondering where a good place to start on figuring out whats wrong with this engine would be.
The only extra on this car is power steering is power steering but IDK if that is important. Thanks guys

    power steering.....very nice.
You mention blown engine.....did he happen to tell you what was blown?
Anyway....pull the head....replace the head gasket. Get the head checked for warpage. Replace all the seals, water pump, timing belt. Valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket.

geez I dont remember right off hand, i dont think he knew for sure, I think he thought it was an oil ring or something. but I have a feeling it is just something simple.

well hopefully just the gasket...check for oil in the coolant and vice versa. Ring is not common so hope it is not that involved.
