  • spec 1 or spec 2 clutch

Ok guys, it seems my clutch is slipping again. When I swapped my b6 I put in a new exedy clutch and got about 6 months out of it and it started slipping badly. I put a new Sachs clutch and drove it about 10k miles. Then I swapped in the bp. Twelve thousand miles later and it is slipping again. Does anybody have any experience with spec clutches? I understand that a spec 1 is a little stronger than stock and a spec 2 is stronger yet. Would the spec 1 be strong enough or should I go with the spec 2. Also would the spec 2 be hard on my tranny? I have a bp with the cam swap and header and very free flowing exhaust with the stock Festy tranny. Right now the G series swap is not an option. Please help guys. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Only difference between spec stage 1 and 2 is the material of the friction disc. Pressure plates are rated the same.

I reccomend ACT. For the e-series I'd order the suzuki swift 4 puck. It's rated for 291 ft.lbs.

For the g-series I'd say ACT 6 puk . Mine is rated for 390 ft.lbs.

Spend the $$ now, and the clutch can be with you thru multiple engines and cars.

Thanks Greg. Doesnt the swift clutch require quite a bit of modding? Since this is my dd I need a fairly quick fix. Most of the reviews I read on the spec clutches are good. Do you know of any bad experiences with them?

Thanks Hot Wheels. I'm not familiar with the xtd clutch. Do you have a link? As for the Miata clutch, doesnt it have a different spline count than the festy? If they are the same then yes please do ask him what he wants for it.

It does require some machine work on the flywheel, and grinding the inside of the trans.

Clutchnet.com makes some strong clutches but they are expensive. I've had a spec stage 1 and stage 2 and both slipped with some abuse. Just my .02$

If you buy a super strong clutch it'll last a long time.

Do you think the stage 2 would slip on a n/a bp? I drive pretty aggressively but never dump my clutch. I jump on mine from a roll 95% of the time. I will be going to the track 3 or 4 times a year but other than that wont abuse it much.

I'd go for more clamping force than the spec. I called them personally, and they told me that their clutch has 30% more clamping force than stock.

Stock is 660 lbs. so theirs is about 900 lbs. of clamp force. The swift ACT is rated @ 2000 lbs of clamp force. Not sure of Clutchnet's specs.

Spec will build you a stronger one if you call them and add "zz" to the end of the part #. Expect to pay an additional $170 on top of their price. $200+$170 for stage 1 or $260+$170 for a stage 2. This is info they told me when I called them.

I had a spec on my b3t, and it worked well. It didn't hold on my b8t. Now it's in Tom's car and is slipping with a sohc b6rt.

I know I regretted buying the spec once it slipped. But with the ACT I was able to break trannies at will.

                  Hope this helps.

euro- did you order the clutch straight from ACTs website or somewhere else? Was there any reason you chose the 6puck over the 4puck or performance?

I bought it from another member here. 6 puck is a little less agressive.
