  • Does anyone have a good running carbed festiva??

well ... we fixed my buddies carbed 89, he bought a 92 injected one..... ha!

with that out of the way we can now take our time and fix the 89 , I think a weber swap will be best but how easy is it?

is it even worth spending time on a stock carb?

I have a full shop and acess to a 2 million dollar laser cutter so a plate will be a breeze.

I am a fan of stock. My 2 cents worth is that I would, but that is just me.

      no feedback carbs

Carbs do not require computer control.
Discard the feedback carb an replace it with a Weber.
Please read drdan's post on how he did it.

Consider yourself lucky. After 20 years, sometimes the carbs dont do so good.
I changed mine to a Weber and it runs better than ever.

I dont think messing with the stock carb will do much good. No parts available to rebuild. Besides, the Weber is SO EASY to work on, and a multitude of parts are available for it. Best part is, it is NOT a feedback carb.
If you can make the plates, then you have the hard part taken care of.
The rest is a piece of cake.

Oh, BTW. My Weber guru, says it is better to use a Weber DF, instead of a DG model. They are not simply "left or right hand" models, but there are differences internally and the DF is slighly smaller and would be a better match for our small engines.
DG and DF still use the same jets. I have a Weber 32/36 DFEV.

Dan, have you gotten it completely tuned yet? I'd be curious about MPG (bearing in mind that we are now using winter gas, which is about 10% less efficient).

I think where I am it would be illegal to replace the feedback carb. We have pretty strict emission control laws and have to be tested every 2 years. I keep mine clean and it has not been a problem.

Mine runs pretty well, it's an '89. Rebuild kits are available. I think some of the main things to watch out for are missing, loose, or incorrectly hooked up vacuum lines, the 02 sensor, and timing. Seems like the idle will always be inconsistent. That being said I am interested in changing to a Weber. Like drddan says, it is 20 years old and it is slowly wearing out mechanically.

My 89 is running on the factory carb, but with no, and I mean no emissions crap. Starts, runs, goes no matter what. I am toying around with the idea of going with a Weber on Batstiva, whenever I get around to working on that one.

But this one, other than an excessive oil leak, runs like a champ.

i have 4 good running carbies, only one is modded (scrappy: B6 short block, headers, FACTORY intake/carb) all get 40+ mpg (or in scrappy's case, is capable of 40+, but i never let him get there HEHEHE).

oh and BTW: all 4 have at LEAST 250k on the odometer/carb.

I miss the quick start and smooth powerband the stock carb on my '88 Festiva. I now have a F.I. '93 Festiva. It takes about 3 times as long for the motor to fire up. I hardly had to turn the key(on the '88) before it fired right up! The '93 F.I. has 2 powerbands because the ECU switches the signals on the injectors, which causes a slight stumble. I still would go with a Weber conversion with an external electric fuel pump [Great Anti-theft device!].
