  • Damn bolt size

    Hey there,

Working on replacing those heater lines that are all rusted up on my dear darling. My question is what's the damn bolt size on that heater conduit? Probably metric, but I'm not sure if head size is related to stud size. Also I can't remove that bolt to go check it out cause I would have to change my whole prestone tank. So I gotta buy new bolts and dunno what to buy. Help!

I'm also replacing my middle exhaust bracket and would need all bolts / nuts to replace with new, going through that area. That middle bracket is the one bolted right next to the e-brake. Hope it's clear enough.

    Thanks guys!

    metric for sure

Everything is metric on the engine. Even the pipe plugs.
I could guess what size the studs are. I am betting 8mm.

Norminal size bolts used on the engine are 6, 8, 10, 12mm

The nut size used on that stud is another question. Probably 12mm
    Good luck.

      Huh?

I would go to an auto or hardware store and remove one of those two water pump outlet bolts and take it in and match 'em up as long as your engine didn't get too hot. Then replace it before you started back up. Or go to a junkyard and pull extras. Why do you need to replace them anyways? Are the heads too rusted to get off? Sorry, I don't think I understand the problem?

Well I believe that if I remove only one of those bolts, that pipe will get loose and coolant will start dripping no?

I'll be changing the whole coolant conduits and I believe changing bolts on the way would be a good idea.

Thanks bravekozak, I think I'll simply be stocking on 6,8,10, and 12s

I don't have a thread pitch gauge here so I can't say exactly what you need.
I will try to remember to bring one home tomorrow. If I have a waterpump at the shop I will measure there and post.

Just so you know you could spend alot of money "just stocking up" on those 4. Each comes in multiple thread pitches and many different lengths.

while you are waiting I would suggest spraying the bolts with high amounts of PB Blaster after you are at home for the evening.

ok, I have a pump here at the shop.
                It takes a 8x1.25x25 bolt.
