  • Do I need to replace my clutch ?

Hi- I got a 95 Aspire with 170k. Runs great and shifts fine. Daily driven on interstate with about 95 miles each day.

My question is: the clutch is getting so it doesnt engage untill about 1 inch from top of travel of clutch pedal. It used to be 3 or 4 inches from top and slowly has climbed up to about an inch. i am guessing it is close to needing to be replaced. But as I said it doesnt slip at all and shifts fine. I dont want it to go out in the middle of the winter as I could replace it now while it still warm here in Iowa but not a job i really look forward to. How long do these clutches last. DO you think it will last to over 200k?? As I said its mostly interstate driving. Not much shifting really.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Try adjusting it first.

We have members here with over 350k on a stock clutch.

I didnt know there was an adjustment for the engadgement point. I know there is a free play adjustment. It does have about half inch free play. Do you think the cable stretched?

Could have, but as the clutch wears the cable needs to be adjusted accordingly. You said it's NOT slipping, so try adjusting the cable. It's quick and easy.

Keep us posted if it works.

I adjusted the clutch for a little more free play and that seemed to lower the point of clutch engadgment. Seems to engadge now about 3 inches or so below top of pedal travel. Made a bigger difference than I thought it would. I may tweak on it some more.

No clutch doesnt slip at all.

Thanks for advice- i didnt think adjusting it would change the engadgment point as it also changes the freeplay too..
