  • Clutch adjustment or new clutch?

Just recently my clutch has been acting up. When I start moving and let off the clutch pedal it makes a squealing noise for a few seconds similar to what is made with a turkey call (metal on chalkboard sound). It only does it in 1st and 2nd and for a second if I start my car in gear with my foot on the clutch pedal. The clutch engagement seems to be pretty high on the clutch pedal as well.
Any advise as to what to do would be appreciated.

    Sounds like a throwout bearing.

Try adjustment first but plan on a replacement clutch.

Agreed, just had mine done at FMIV, thanks to Arty and Will.
Plenty of clutch and the fly wheel was fine, but throwout bearing was dry!

I think he's confused, because in the manual they talk about adjusting the free play when you make adjustments to the clutch engagment.
But unless you have a lot of slop I never do anything with the free play.

I tried it, it just spins the whole cable wasn't sure if I should grab the part before the threads with vise grips or If there is an easier way. Don't be a jerk your whole life... It makes me want to powerbomb you

I don't like breaking things If I dont have to.

Hit it with some BP blaster for a few days and maybe some heat (ie torch) to break it loose.
Might try threading two more nuts on the end to act as a locking nut set so you can get some torque on the frozen one.
I wouldn't go at the cable with a set of vice grips just yet.
You don't want to chew-up the threads you will have to remove the cable when/if you need to swap a clutch in.
Or buy a new clutch cable.

Try vice grips at the end of the threads toward the back of the car, you'll never use those.

                  And PB blaster of course.

I wouldnt try a powerbomb unless you wanna go prison for murder!

There is an unthreaded portion visible. Just wasn't sure how fragile it was. I tend to brake things unintentionally, lol.
