  • oil in water

    Hi buddies!
I have engine oil mixed with coolant in the radiator(milky brown color). The pcv valve has little traces of water vapor.
I thought that my sister added oil to the coolant, but the oil residues were more and more.... So, I took the head off to check it.
The gasket has no signs of damage on oil/water holes. The machine shop checked the head and they said it was ok. I decided to port it.
I'm going to put everything together in a cople of weeks and let's see what happen.
I think that the throttle body gasket was leaking some water to the intake, but why so much oil in to the radiator?(Trans oil is clean)

    Any similar experiences?

BTW I'm looking for the oil dipstick tube and hold down clamp le me know if you have one for me.

^^ Sure, you can suggest pretty much anything you want. Whether you get it or not is a different story.

Festival- click on userCP tab, click edit details, scroll down to location, and tell us where you are.

Additionally, you could tell us what kind of Festiva goodies you have, so we can decide if a raid is in order.:p

              Suggestions and instructions accepted

Thanks for the baby steps batstiva.
I got my sister's festiva for 500 minus repairs. It is in regular condition.
I replaced the engine a year ago, and the engine looks like it was repaired.
The hone marks are still visible on the cylinder walls. It has 13" steel wheels.

I don't know the name of the color, but looks like the one that the member with stylus bumper has on his car. Plus gray primer patches :cyclops:

So, if you dare to ride on it, you might wish to wear a mask

The car has plates from Mexico, and I plan to use it to go to work. May be some day, I can upgrade the engine.

So far I want to fix it and kepp it on the road. :sign12:

now finally in post #9 I'll attempt to help w/ the original problem...

First thing i'd do is a radiator flush if you haven't already... fill w/ 100% water and run for a few days... then re-check..

Also, do you have an automatic or manual car? Automatic cars have radiators with the transmission lines running to it for cooling... maybe it has rusted through and into the water..???

-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...

I doubt the machine shop properly tested the head, it's a bit expensive. I had this problem after I had my cylinder head rebuilt. Head gasket looked good but I replaced and retorqued the head. No more signs of oil in coolant.

                        suggestions finally

                        Ejp2fast:
I will have to flush the radiator with gasoline because the oil is a lot. I have an auto trans, but I doubt that the trans. cooler is the problem. Trans oil is red and the level is good. I regret not doing what you said before removing the head.
                        Fest time:
I hope that when everything is together, the water/oil problem is gone. eventhought I wouldn't know what cause it.
                        Miami Man:
I haven't heard of that problem of vapor condensation. It makes sence to me.
Ofcourse, I will never see a problem like that in my area. Here weather is very dry most of the time.

                        To be continued......

I have the exact same problem right now in my 95 Festy here in Aus. Mines been doin it for about 6 months! Anywho i replaced the head, head gasket and still the problem persists. I have a manual so its not trans oil. I have a feeling its a fault in the block as its not a common fault at all. I am rebuilding a new engine at the moment but a little low on money!
                          Fun and Festy!

Brian, are you certain that the engine, rad and heater core were flushed properly once the head gasket was installed? if not, you may still be seeing residual from the original blown head gasket (yes, even 6 mos later)

Yes indeed I did. Especially since my heater core is disconnected as it leaks. I flushed it all out and trust me I think more oil has come out than they hold at any one time lol. I have to keep topping it up. Everything else has been replaced so it really only leaves the block. What ever it is its a rare thing because most people get water in the oil not the other way around which also leads me to beleive the leak would be near one of the high pressure oil ports as normally the coolant is at a higher pressure to the oil. As there isn't coolant in the oil this leads me to believe its the block.

                              One old mechanic told me as a rule of thumb that;

Oil in the coolant is usualy a cracked/rotten block or rarely a head gasket.

Coolant in the oil is usualy a cracked/rotten head or head gasket.

Its a rule of thumb he said but its not always dead on. As you know its all circumstantial.
