  • Need Help with Carburetor Installation

Are there any pictures and instructions on how to install a carburetor on a 1988 Festiva?

    Welcome!

Stock carb or Weber or something else?

Have you tried the search function? I know folks have a few pics floating around here.

Instructions in Haynes manaul brief, one half page column.
      - put on gasket
      - insert mounting screws
      - tighten in criss-cross pattern
      - plug in elclerical connectors
      - connect gas line
      - connect vacuum hoses
      - connect accelerator cable and if AC throttle valve cable
      - put on air cleaner and hoses
Most important point is label all wire and hoses when removing.
      Hope that was done.

WmWatt.... This is at least a start... I was not present when the old carb was removed, but I have the dubious honor of putting the rebuilt one back on. Thanks for the Info.

Well you're in the right place!

Keep searching for carb pics. Post your own pics of where your car is at so someone may be better able to help you. I had (have, cut up a bit) an '89L and the vac lines and such are a nightmare!

Here's the best I can do at the moment, an old pic before I cut Muttstiva's front end off:

I doubt it will help. All my pre-take-my-carb-out-to-rebuild-it pics are not online or digitized at all. That was years ago.

You may want to consider a carb swap to something less complicated.

Most of the vacuum hoses are for emissions. The car will run with them plugged. Fuel efficiency will suffer and it won't pass an emissions test. I suspect the vacuum advance to the distributor has to be connected. Maybe there is another. Someone here should know what needs to be connected to get the car to run. Maybe you can work on connecting the others at your leisure. The original hoses are colour coded making them easier to trace. There have been some queries about hoses here before.

I am re-connecting a stock carb on an 88 that has everything off it and hanging there. Some were taped and labeled but others got lost in the shuffle a ways back. Would it be great if someone, as much as possible, could take some clear, well lit, comprehensive closeup pics of that area showing all connected wires and hoses and put them on here. I should have done it myself, I know. Thanks

Very hard to get photos in tight quarters, esp at the back.
In the past people have asked about specific hoses. Myself and others have gone out and looked under the hood, traced the hoses, often by touch, and written a description of where they go. I assume we'd treat ongoing inquiries the same way. Some of those descriptions would be in old postings but probably not well labeled. I'd try searching on "vacuum hose" or "carb".

I dont know how much help it will be, but there are pics of the vacuum lines as I was removing old carb for the Weber carb.
Like Batstiva said, you dont really need all the lines hooked up, just the ones that make it run. Vacuum advance, PCV valve. Plug the rest so they dont cause vacuum leaks.
