  • 95 Festiva not running quite right

Hey guys! I have two Festys and my girls Festy was a bomb when we got it. Its what happens when a moron gets hold of a car.
Anyway I have fixed it up.

    New injectors
New Inlet (jiggy) Manifold (my girl calls em inlet jiggys lol)
    New head gasket
    New rotors + hubs
    Rebuilt/redone aircon + wireing
    Got the radiator reconed
Wired the sterio the right way!

    However it still runs weird.
    I will explain;
When you start it from cold for the first few seconds, especially if you start it and just take off it runs like its flooding or like its an old carby. Just dies in power and you gain no speed or lose some at 20-30kph. Otherwise while driving when its warm it seems to have random power fluxuation almost like the aircon is on. Also other times it seems weak, like you get up a hill in 5th no worries the next day it has to drop back to 4th or even 3rd! Other times its a bloody rocket! It doesn't seem related to weather as it has been stinking hot for a few weeks and it has done all of the above.

Its fuel economy isn't good either, using the aircon or not. My festy gets 5.3L/100km hers gets 7.5L/100km even if I drive it, so it can't be driving style.

I was thinking maybe it the computer or even the O2 sensor.
    Any ideas?

I am kinda sick of this car lol, done so much work on it and its still not right.

    Thanx guys!

If you check your sparkplugs, you would probably find they are Black & Sooty, which means your car is running real rich. Check your connection to the VAF [Vane Air Flow] unit on the airbox.

Other possiblities: Sometimes a sparkplug fails. Sparkplugs on wrong plugs. Ignition Timing retarted [distributor adjustment].

Spark plugs are new and shes timed, altho i had to do it by ear as the pully has no marks on it what so ever to tune it too, which is odd in its self.
I did check those at the air box but now I will double check em by swaping with my Festy and see how it goes.

FYI; I tuned it advanced till it pinged under throttle, then backed it off till it stopped, then just backed it off a tiny bit more. With a wire in the black box bypassing the computer. Its how I tune my Minx as its timing is whacked with the non factory parts in it (minus the computer bypassed lol).

Ok i swapped airfilter boxes and its better.

Instead of gradual powerloss over 2 secs its instant and instead of power gain after 5 or so seconds its instant with about a 3 second total powerloss in between. it only does it after its been started after sitting for 3 or so hours. After that it goes like hell, but say pedal to the floor in 3rd you can feel it "missing". Its not really missing and missing makes it jump around but its doing something less drastic.

the airbox is off my car and my car goes fine, just that its off the road till I have its new engine built as it has a cracked block, that and its unregistered and uninsured as only I have a job atm.

So any other ideas? i am gonna swap the o2 sensor aswell when its not so bloody hot out side. :blob6:

        Thanx heaps!:p

Don't want to direct you away from this great site but this one relates more to our cars for your model as they were sold under the Aspire name in the States while being sold in OZ as Festiva http://www.fordaspire.com/ have a look at the featured project section 4 of the 6 cars there are aussie
