  • outside door handle

hi im new here from n.c. i have a 88 festiva today its snowing so i decided to run the car a bit the driver side door was frozen i broke the black vinyl handle off . my question is can i use a passenger side out side door handle for replacement which i just so happen to have another door?or is there another way of opening the driver side door if that dont work. thanks:

Yes, you can use the passenger side. I believe you just have to switch the clip that holds the rod.

    And Welcome to the site!

Welcome! Our style door handles aren't the best when things freeze up. You need to be really careful and patient and use your other hand's fingers to pry on the door itself so you don't break the handle off.

Had is actually glass reinforced Polyamide, vinyl would never holdup!

I believe wybnrml is correct, they are symmetrical and should be interchangeable.

It is useful to know where in FL you are.
The FL crew is well represented at many of our meets, so you might want to become a part of that by putting in your location.
It also helpful in cases where you actually do need parts!
          Welcome!

Go to User CP (top of the Page in the blue bar)
          Control Panel(left side of screen)
Edit Profile-scroll to bottom of page to location.

                            Linchero,

Some silicone spray lube or armor all rubbed over the door gasket and door frame will keep the door from freezing shut.

If you are in Western North Carolina, we have freeze - thaw - freeze - thaw all winter, along with rain - freeze.

Water gets on the gasket and freezes to the frame.

I have ripped gaskets apart opening the door, as well as breaking door handles.
