Last night the temp here plunged to about 50. This morning my perfect windshield had a vertical crack in the center starting at the bottom edge and running up about 10". Are windshields still available?

I went to the junk yard and I was referred to a glass installer who just happened to have a PPG Festiva windshield sitting on a rack for many years.
Good luck with your local auto glass shops. -

I was in Orlando ten days ago, where the TV weatherheads were hyperventilating because the wind chill had "plummeted" to 31F.

Through the insurance, you would most likely need to pay a deductable.
I would imagine most festys are insured under PLPD anyways and wouldn't be covered, but check!-Zack

My brother lives in Pennsicola and said that in Florida, the insurance companies down there have to get you a new windshield at no extra cost on your insurance, check it out.Thom-Lifes too short, don't blink
