  • can i take out the thermostat for summer?????

    93 ford festiva / auto /

some say that if it is out there is no restriction so the coolant dosent stay in the rad long enough to cool down so the car may overheat.
keep in mind i live in canada so we dont see really hot weather.
reason i ask is i have a 195 right now and the gauge shows over half way up and the fan runs alot in the summer.
i have tried a lower thermostat but then in winter i am cold.
so do i take it out in summer or put in the lower temp one ??

either way i am ok with having to change it.

ps i searched and was not able to find this topic.

Change to a lower temp. sensor. The coolant will often flow too fast and you will have overheating problems.

My fan rarely turns on in the summer unless I'm sitting still.

          thermostat

i may stand to be corrected but is there a certain way to put a thermostat in a festiva? meaning a small hole at the 12 o'clock position? i read this years ago i do not know if it applies anymore.

Yes ,spring side goes toward the engine and the small bypass hole in the thermostat goes at the top
