  • help dont know what the problem is.

hi. im 16 and new to ff and pretty new to festiva's there self sense how im only 16. my first festiva i rolled and now i have my new one. i was told the ecu was shot so i put a new one in. at first i tried my 93s the car im trying it in is a 90 with fuel injection. and before all of this my car when u turn the key on it buzzes just like always then i push the clutch in to start it and i have no power. i was thinking it was the main fuse box. the brown box under the hood. i switched all the wires. i was wondering if the box itself could be the problem. any help would be greatly welcomed.
    Thanks so so much, Cody

a test light or volt meter would show if the connection is good

make sure you have good connection at you nutral safety switch (right above the clutch pedal) and if that's good, then have someone try cranking and you smack the starter with a mallet or hammer.

If there is no power to the starter trace it back until find power and fix the problem. Also you could try jumping power straight from the battery to the starter.

before all of this if was turning over and spinning with no spark we replaced a couple things. coil and 1 other thing i forget what it is. then we came up that my 93 ecu wont work in a 90 so i bought an ecu for a 90 and before all of this i had trouble keeping power. and it afects everything that the (main) wire in the box from the shop manual says it would. ive replaced the wire so im thinking the box is shot. what i dont get in if you let it sit over night you go out in the morning and you turn the key the buzzer comes on then it does the same thing over again

Here are a couple of ideas:

Check for corrosion on battery terminals.
Recheck fused links or install regular fuses from junkyard cars.
Coil wire connected? (I forgot I took mine off once and it delayed me for ten minutes!)

Are you getting any sound at all when you turn the key? A click?

BTW, ECUs for 1990 through 1993 should all be the same for auto and manual transaxles. There is no electronic control for the automatic like in four speed Mazdas, so there's no need for a different ECU.

Carbed ECUs will be different and I've heard the auto 1989 has an ECU all it's own.

                Good luck!

Might want to think about pulling those links back out and checking the posts for corrosion. Me thinks you got lucky on the 3rd try. Just a suggestion.

Clean the terminals on your fusible links.
Mine cranked with no spark coming out of work one day, scrapped clean the terminals and away it went....
