I suppose it could also be some loose wire connections? That's what I think my "fuel pump" problem was when I was stranded in Culpeper, VA a month or so ago.

Swapping from fusible link to fuses may be a good idea....

Set the volt meter to 25v DC and put it across the battery terminals.
To check the main fuses put the voltmeter across the contacts.
In all cases you should get at least 12v reading.
(If no voltage try reversing the contacts because its DC.
Black wires are usually negative, coloured positive.)

you can get these from most ford, mercury, lincoln, mazda, kia?, and other cars. you need green's and red's and look at the groove in the middle on the bottom as it needs to be about a half inch long. The reason I say that is you'll find ones that are stubby and the groove is only about a 1/4" long and they won't fit.
with the fuses, there's also "flat top" fuses (which tend to have a touch of corrosion or something in them? kinda weird) and then a better looking one (that I've never seen corrosion in), but idk how to describe it. It's sort of /-\ like a bike ramp or something. lol
hi. im 16 and new to ff and pretty new to festiva's there self sense how im only 16. my first festiva i rolled and now i have my new one. i was told the ecu was shot so i put a new one in. at first i tried my 93s the car im trying it in is a 90 with fuel injection. and before all of this my car when u turn the key on it buzzes just like always then i push the clutch in to start it and i have no power. i was thinking it was the main fuse box. the brown box under the hood. i switched all the wires. i was wondering if the box itself could be the problem. any help would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks so so much, Cody
You were told it 's ECU is shot? It's hard to know for sure it is without replacing it with a good one.
Have you tried replugging the orginal ECU in and try starting it?
Sorry my last post was retarded, in time that is.
Electronics stores sell little cans of spray contact cleaner but WD-40 would probably do just as well. I'd just spray the connector ends, not the computer side as I would not want any spray getting into the computer.

I've had good results with spraying WD-40 into an erraticly opening and closing connector and it fixing the issue. Whether it be a little corrosion or something idk but it works well and that was probably 6 months ago with no issues. You could also use rubbing alcahol on a q-tip I would think
