Window won't roll back up!

Windows have been very hard to roll up and down... just went thru the ATM and I think the car saw I had more $$ in my account because now the window won't roll back up...

The handle spins, but nothing. I checked the handle, no broken splines or anything...... so looks like I need a new regulator?

Where do I get one? Do parts stores still carry them?

First I would look inside.
I sprayed a bunch of Armorall into my window tracks a couple of times. This made my windows go up and down a lot easier, taking a lot of strain off the inner workings.

I took a regulator from an escort, fit and worked fine in my girlfriend's 323.

Go to the junkyard and take your chances, I'm pretty sure they're interchangeable.

manual winder

I always found that manual window winders always had a tendency to bind up. Remember that the window mechanism on old American cars used to be a geared scissor action. Now, there are two small cables making right angled turns in nylon guides. I have Pride power winders now. I will never go back to manual winders. However, I am still looking for something to fill in the 1" holes in the door panels where the crank handle once was.

Has anyone else used a window regulator from an escort? This would lead me to believe I could grab a POWER window regulator from an escort and use that..... ditching my manual windows????

Thoughts? Opinions?

I was thinking the same thing! The yard (with 15-20 escorts in it, mind you) didn't have a single one with power windows.

Just pulled out my festiva window regulator....... wow, very easy.

1. Remove the 2 philips arm rest screws
2. Remove the philips door handle screw
3. Remove the lower front panel philips screw
4. Using a clip remover, or regular screw driver, or key (like I did) pop the clip off the window crank and remove crank
5. Pop off the door panel
6. Remove the 2 screws holding the window into place (located on the regulator in the door)
7. Remove inside window trim along top of door (pops out)
8. Remove 2 nuts on top of regulator bar
9. Remove 1 bolt on bottom of regulator bar
10. Remove 3 nuts holding crank portion on
11. Pull out regulator thru service hole

DONE!

Now to see if an escort regulator will fit..... manual or power.......

I believe those require your manual regulators to be in good working order. No?

Don't those just slip over the crank shaft to spin it automatically instead of using a handle?

Yep, that's their exact purpose, but I figured if you couldn't score electric regulators, grab a good manual regulator and use the power kit.

I'll be calling a few junk yards tomorrow to see what they have........ there isn't a pick-n-pull real close to me and I work all day. Hoping a junk yard has some for a decent price.

Since I have the glass out, I'm going to be tinting the glass. Much easier to lay it on the kitchen table and lay the tint on than doing it vertical in the car. I'll do that for the passenger window and rear side windows as well. Only window I'll have to do IN the car is the rear window... shouldn't be too shabby....

I just want this window regulator fixed...... the festiva will get about 37mpg vs. my truck which gets about 13mpg. I drive about 37 miles / day so that adds up quickly

I'm thinking a mid-90's window regulator from an escort should work. I'll bring my festiva regulator to the junk yard to compare.

Do you have festiva regulators? What would you be looking to get for them shipped to Rochester, NY 14612? I'd really like to get them by Thursday if possible so I can get everything back together over the long weekend. Where are you located?
