  • Failed Radio install.. What did I do?

    This is so frustrating....
I was installing an older Sony CD player that I had hanging around here. I went and bought the harness from Best Buy (BHA1781 by bestkits.com)
I wired up the harness on the kitchen table. Looked good. I plugged everything in to test it. It worked great!!! I put in a CD, and it sounded good!
OK, so time to slide it in and finish job. Done!
No problem.....EXCEPT that the door open buzzer seems to be partly energized?? huh? and the radio no longer works.
I take the bezel back off, and slide the radio out. Everything still looks intact. Still not working.. I confirmed power from the red wire with my test light.
Strange thing is, when I disconnect the single plug, the door open alarm stops buzzing. This is brown and white, which I have hooked up to yellow on my harness.
Next step is to test the original radio, and determine if the problem is with the radio or the wiring...
    ANY help would be great!!!
    Thanks

It sounds like your illumination wire and constant may be rubbing somewhere.
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

The wht/red wire is the constant HOT. The Blu/Yel is hot in the RUN position. No Bwn/Wht wire in the Radio circuit.

        Thanks for the reply guys!
yeah the blue/yellow has power.(not red at that point) the single wire with the brown connector seems to be grounded. I screwed something up... With all of the plugs open (no radio, nothing plugged in) the seat belt / door alarm sounds with the car running..!
When I put a test light to the brown connector, the alarm gets louder!
        any ideas???

Problem solved, so I thought I'd update!
Turns out I just blew a fuse. I replaced the blown "room" fuse, and now the radio is installed and working great!
          Thanks for the replies
