  • festiva hatch questions

So I have a 92 festy parts car with the rear wiper on the hatch and I really want it on my car, my car has the defroster that I love and I want to swap hatches and put my rear defrost window into the wiper hatch.

Q#1.... do all festivas have the wiring in place for the rear wiper and washer?

Q#2.... how difficult is it to remove the glass from on hatch and install it into another?

I'm not sure how hard it is to remove the window....... but removing the entire hatch was a piece of cake. I disconnected the wiring harness into the hatch down by the drivers side tail light, pulled the wiring out (with an additional wire to make it easy feeding the wires back in later)

    6 bolts, hatch is off.

Hatch glass replacement instructions are here:

I tried to remove some plain glass from my bent up surf blue hatch this fall but gave up. Temperature was around the sixties. Warmer would be better, I'm sure. I'll try again in the summer after it heats up in the sun.

Ok so the window is doable.... but what about the wiring?

Others can confirm this, but some '88s may not have some of the wiring you need to hook up a wiper/washer. I could be wrong. Look in the left rear of your inner fender area at the left taillight and look for connections from the main rear harness that would connect to any added accessories. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. You just need to remove the LR plastic pieces to see, and match the connector ends for compatability.

I have a complete harness swap from a 91 festy but I cannot remember if it had a wiper.
